🥗 SNAP (Food Assistance) in Ohio

📘 What Is It?

 Ohio’s SNAP program is called Food Assistance. It helps low-income individuals and families buy groceries each month. Benefits are loaded onto an Ohio Direction Card (EBT card), which works like a debit card at most grocery stores and farmers markets. 

✅ Who Can Qualify?

 You may qualify if you:

  • Live in Ohio
     
  • Are a U.S. citizen or eligible immigrant
     
  • Meet low income guidelines
     
  • Work, have limited income, or are unemployed
     
  • Have less than $2,750 in resources (or $4,250 if a household member is disabled or 60+)

• Each extra person – + $557

🏠 Section 8 Housing in Ohio

📘 What Is Section 8?

 Section 8, also known as the Housing Choice Voucher Program, helps low-income Ohio residents pay rent. You choose your own apartment, house, or mobile home, and the program pays part of your rent directly to the landlord. 

✅ Who Can Qualify?

 You may qualify for Section 8 in Ohio if you:

  • Live in Ohio
     
  • Are a U.S. citizen or legal immigrant

  • Pass background and rental history checks

💵 TANF / Ohio Works First (Cash Assistance)

📘 What Is It?

 Ohio Works First (OWF) is the state’s TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) program. It provides monthly cash payments to help low-income families with children pay for basic needs like food, rent, and utilities. 

✅ Who Can Qualify?

 You may be eligible for OWF if you:

  • Live in Ohio
     
  • Have at least one child under age 18, or are pregnant
     
  • Are a U.S. citizen or eligible immigrant
     
  • Meet income and asset limits
     
  • Cooperate with child support enforcement
     
  • Agree to participate in work or training activities
