What Is SNAP?

 The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in Texas helps low-income families buy groceries using a Lone Star Card (EBT) at approved stores and farmers markets. 

Who Qualifies?

• Each additional person — add ~$557

  • Live in Texas

💰 What Is TANF?

 TANF, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, is a state-run program that provides monthly cash payments to low-income families with children. In Texas, this program is called TANF Cash Help and is managed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). 

✅ Who Can Get TANF in Texas?

 

You may qualify if you:

  • Live in Texas
     
  • Are a U.S. citizen or eligible legal immigrant
     
  • Have a child under 18 (or are pregnant)
     
  • Have low or no income
     
  • Have very limited resources (like money in the bank or a car)
     
  • Cooperate with job training or work programs (unless exempt)
     

📌 TANF is not available to most childless adults. Exceptions apply to pregnant women in their final trimester or teens under special care.
